Deacon William Daniel Thomas departed this life Monday, February 29, 2016, at the Fairmont Crossing Nursing Home. William was born August 27, 1925, in Amherst County, Va. to the late Oliver Daniel and Emma White Thomas.
William "Weese" was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Dolores H.; his loving daughter, Sharon D.; one granddaughter, Deanna; and four brothers, James, Terrell, Sr., George and Charlie Thomas.
William was a dedicated member of Scott Zion Baptist Church who faithfully served as a Deacon, Superintendent of Sunday School, an Usher and he sang on various choirs until his health failed. William was World War II Veteran of the United States Navy and also was a member of the R.F. Braxton Masonic Lodge. "Weese" was retired from Lynchburg Foundry and along with church activities he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, he also enjoyed woodworking in his shop and fishing with his friends.
William "Weese" leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Larry D. Thomas (Rosia), and Gary D. Thomas (Freda), both of Madison Heights, Va.; four grandchildren, Leticia, Nina, Daniel, and Jonathan; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Jesse (Monica) and Alfred Thomas, Sr.; one sister, Francis (Edward) Austin; a caring sister-in-law, Annie Pannell, and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2016, at Scott Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Lee, officiating. The interment will be held in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 3, 2016, from 6 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
