Obituary

William R. Gray, 71, of Madison Heights, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015 at his residence. He was born August 24, 1943 to the late George M. Gray and Rosa Abbitt Gray.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, George G. Gray, Sr., James E. Gray, John H. Gray, Lloyd Gray and Ronald L. Gray; one Sister, Patricia Rosser; two sisters-in-law, Mary C. Gray and Vermel Lucas Gray; two brothers-in-law, Charles Merchant and Lawrence Ware.
William joined Scott Zion Baptist Church at an early age and was a graduate of Central High School. He proudly served his country in the US Army and was employed at BWX Technologies and retired after thirty years of service.
William Leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of Forty-seven years, Joyce Merchant Gray; a daughter, La`Tana Gray; two granddaughters, La`Sasha Gray and Diamond Tanner; grandson, DaVonte` Gray; great grandson, Zayvion Moore; a god daughter, Tammy Christian; two brothers, Larry (Patricia) of Rustburg and Kenneth (Geneva) Gray, of Madison Heights; five sisters, Meverlene J. Smith,(James) Everlene G. Davis (Lawrence), both of Lynchburg, Eunice G. Ware, Joyce G. Coleman (William) and Betty J. Gray, of Madison Heights; two sisters-in-law, Carrie Gray, of Lawton, OK and Yvonne S. Gray, of Madison Heights; brother-in-law, Ouitman Rosser ; two special friends, Denise Mason and George Perkins and a host of family and friends.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Scott Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Lee, officiating and Rev. Russell Lee, Eulogist. The interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-8 Pm at Davis-Turner Funeral Service. Military rites will be given by American Legion Post 16.
