IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wanda V.
Washington
August 19, 1954 – September 14, 2024
On August 19, 1954, in Mitchellville, MD, Wanda V. Washington was born into a loving family. She passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, at Lynchburg General Hospital, surrounded by those who loved her dearly.
Wanda was the devoted wife of Juarez Washington and the cherished daughter of the late Charles and Edna Mackall. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Clay Tyler, Sr. and her older brothers, Irvin, Billy, and Curly Mackall. Her family and faith were central to her life, and she took great comfort in the hope of the resurrection, as described in Acts 24:15 & 16, a belief she held dear as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Wanda served faithfully as a dedicated minister of Jehovah, having chosen early retirement after 30 years as a respected federal government employee. Her colleagues admired her for her work ethic, kindness, and integrity. Upon retiring, she joyfully dedicated herself full-time to her ministry and spent her remaining years in service Jehovah, alongside her large and cherished family. She was known for her compassion, always offering spiritual encouragement to those around her, a true reflection of the love she had for Jehovah.
In her spare time, Wanda enjoyed substitute teaching at local schools, where she touched the lives of countless students, many of whom she affectionately considered part of her extended family. Wanda's impact was far-reaching, both spiritually and personally, as she formed deep connections within her community.
Wanda had an undeniable zest for life. She loved to dance, travel, and enjoy the excitement of the racetrack. Her radiant smile could brighten any room, and her joyful spirit brought comfort and encouragement to everyone blessed to know her.
She leaves behind a loving family who mourn her passing but cherish the hope of being reunited in Jehovah's promised paradise. She is survived by her devoted daughters: Crystal Toney (Robert), Cristen Adkins (Rickey), Latheda Wilson, Christopher Fleming, and Shannon Gatling (Tangie); her sister, Gwendolyn Johnson (Jeff); her brothers, Ray Mackall (Patty) and Glen Mackall; treasured grandchildren, Clay Tyler, Jr., Alexis Tyler, Brandon Tyler (Hannah), Mickenzy Tyler, Jaime Tyler, Khalil Gatling, Shaelyn Gatling, and Amirah Dean; her beloved great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
Wanda's legacy of faith, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and we find peace in the promise found at Revelation 21:4, knowing that soon, "death will be no more." Her life was a true testament to her faith, and her memory will forever be cherished by all whose lives she touched.
A memorial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2024, at Amherst Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2231 S. Amherst Hwy, Amherst, VA 24521. A repast will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Second Stage, 154 2nd St. Amherst, VA 24521
