Obituary

On Friday Dec 16, 2016, surrounded by his loved ones, Walter peacefully took the wings of an angel and was ushered to his celestial home. Walter was the 3rd child of Isaac Roosevelt Allen and Esther M. Allen, both deceased. Walter was raised in a home where christian values were consistently instilled and at an early age he was baptized and joined the White Oak Grove Baptist Church in Phenix, Virginia. After graduating from Randolph Henry High School in Charlotte Court House, Virginia, he moved to Lynchburg, Virginia and became a member of the White Rock Baptist Church. Walter served the church faithfully in several capacities until his health declined. Walter was enthusiastic about his work at White Rock Baptist Church serving as a Trustee, choir member, van driver and assisted in the finance department.

Growing up on a farm, Walter developed a strong work ethic that was deeply ingrained and evident to all who knew him. Walter took a great deal of pride in his work at the US Pipes Company (Griffin Pipe) where he worked over 25 years. He truly enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships that he had with his co-workers. Walter was compassionate, helpful, loving, kind and respectful. Also, he had a great sense of humor and enjoyed having fun with family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are his dear, devoted and loving wife, Cherylene D. Allen, children; Clemmie D. Allen, Richmond, Virginia, Warrick D. Allen, Lynchburg, Virginia, grandsons; Brett and Bryson, siblings; Wallace I. Allen (Janice), Roanoke, Virginia, Dr. W. Wallicia Gill (Cordell), Centreville, Virginia, the late Henry S. Allen, Barbara J. Spencer, Alexandria, Virginia, David Allen, Phenix, Virginia, Major General Roosevelt Allen (Rosalind), Andrews AFB, Maryland, a very special mother-in-law, Mrs. Ida Harris and father-in-law, Mr. Harold Harris, Lynchburg, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
