Celebrating the Life of Shirley Ann Phillips-Jones "Giving Love A Chance" Shirley Ann Phillips-Jones, age 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City.
Mrs. Jones was born on September 8, 1939 in Amherst County, Virginia, a daughter of the late father Samuel Phillips and Reverend Clara Elizabeth Phillips-Beverly.
Shirley was a graduate of Central High School in Amherst County, VA. She thereafter relocated to Broomfield, Connecticut to attend nursing school where she graduated and became a Licensed Practical Nurse which was a path that became very clear to her after taking care of her late father. Shortly after, she went on to work at Florence Nightingale Hospital and Nursing Home as a nurse in New York. In 1971, she married Willie E. Jones who preceded her in death in September 2007.
She is survived and loved by her three sons, Robert (Bobby), Wade (Mann), Willie Jr. (Luvmug) who resides in New York; her three daughters, Sharon of Alexandria, Virginia, Barbara (Ann) of Northern Virginia, and Darlene of New York; her 9 grandchildren, Robert Jr. "Lil Bob", Pierre, Eddie (Naquan), Alexis, Tahira, Keyanna, Tieyanna, Zachariah, and Zariah; her 9 great grandchildren; her brother, Cecil Wayne Phillips; her sisters, Mary Darnell Barbour, Linda Sue Harsley, Debra K. James, and Clara Laverne Jerrels; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was proceeded by her late brothers and sisters, Samuel Jr., Stuart, William, Charles, Harold, George, Betty, Barbara, and Rosa.
