Shawn Lamont Braxton suddenly and peacefully departed this life at home on Saturday, March 20, 2021. He transitioned to his heavenly home as he lived; majestic, without complaint or disappointment. He was the devoted husband of Patricia Payne Braxton and loving father of daughter Dasia. Shawn was born to Theresa Braxton Alexander and Stewart Poindexter in Lynchburg, VA on October 1, 1973. He was educated in the Lynchburg, public schools, graduating from E. C. Glass High School.

Shawn was a lover of sports and could be seen rooting for the New Orleans Saints, his favorite NFL team. Watching and participating in games shows on television was one of his favorite past times. He was an expert on the "Moonshiner" episodes and was able to fill you in if you happened to miss any of the broadcasts.

He is celebrated for his warm, compassionate caring, and giving heart, Shawn was a treasured friend, father, brother; distinguished for his special love and care for family, his gracious giving to all, his warm smile, and desire to serve others.

Shawn was preceded in death by his grandparents and one brother Howard "Binky" Horsley.

To cherish his memory, are his deeply devoted wife, Patricia; daughter Dasia, mother, Theresa Alexander, father, Stewart Poindexter, step-brother, Jamelle Poindexter, Uncle Richard Horsley (Carolyn) Uncle Charles Horsley, Sisters in law, Freda Payne, Catherine Payne Garrett, great aunt, Ann Horsley, godmother, Virginia Davis, godfather, Henry Reid, and a host of other loving relatives and friends cultivated over the years.

A precious one from us has gone,

A voice we loved is tilled; a place is vacant in our heart,

Which never can be filled

And after a lonely heartache,

And many a silent tear;

But always a beautiful memory

Of one we love so dear.

A celebration of Shawn's life will be held 2PM Friday, April 09, 2021 at Davis-Turner Funeral Service with Rev. Carl B. Hutcherson, Eulogist. COVID precautions will be in place. Please wear a mask. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
