Harris, Jr. "Rudy"
March 21, 1953 – March 22, 2025
Rufus Alexander Harris, Jr., affectionately known as "Rudy" or "Goose", departed this life at his residence in Concord, VA on March 22, 2025, at the age of 72. Rudy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to many.
Rudy was born on March 21, 1953, to the late Rufus Alexander Harris, Sr. and Lessie Mae Harris. In addition to his parents, Rudy was predeceased in death by a sister, Joyce Harris; and two brothers, Hoza Harris and Alexis Harris.
Rudy attended private school and upon graduation, enlisted in the United States Army where he served and was honorably discharged on March 7, 1978. Rudy took great pride in being a Veteran and serving his country.
Rudy met his wife Margretta, whom he cherished and later cared for until his passing. They were married on October 18, 1989, and had recently celebrated 35 years of marriage. After their union, Rudy and Margretta became members of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, where they baptized and enjoyed being able to fellowship and serve with members that became family.
Rudy was employed by C.R. Hudgins Plating Company for many years as well as Southern Air, where he retired as a plumber. In his spare time, he would enjoy bowling with his fellow coworkers.
In addition to being survived by his wife, Margretta (Grits), Rudy is survived by his daughters, Kim McCoy (Keith) of Concord, VA, Chouncée Foxx, also known as Butter, of Lynchburg, VA, Ashleigh Lofton of Richmond, VA; a son, Ryan Thomas (La'Quisha) of Lynchburg, VA; ten grandchildren: Haley, Elijah, Ethan, Jahki, Donovan, Keith (Tink), Ryan, Aryanna, Ava, and Anthony; and one great grandson, Kylo.
Rudy also leaves to cherish his memory five sisters, Orrania Harris, Patricia Harris, Wanda Carr, Peggy Edwards, and Vickie Carr all of Richmond, VA.
In addition to his siblings, Rudy is survived by his in laws whom he loved and considered his cherished family, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly.
Those who knew Rudy couldn't help but to be blessed by his infectious smile and big, hearty laugh. Aside from loving his family immensely, everyone knew Rudy's love for riding his Harley Davidson Road King. Rudy took pride in shining his bike and going for rides with his wife when they were able to.
Rudy was loved by so many. He was devoted to caring for his wife unconditionally as she battled dementia. He was a humble man who always did his best to provide for his family. He was a loyal provider, friend, and brother and will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 25, 2025, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Rustburg, VA. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
