IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rowena
Robinson
March 1, 1951 – August 22, 2023
On Tuesday morning, August 22, 2023, Rowena Mae Ferguson Robinson quietly entered into her eternal resting place. She was born on March 1, 1951, to Manley and the late Margaret (Reed) Ferguson, Sr. of Concord, Virginia.
Rowena joined Mount Shiloh Baptist Church at an early age. She remained a faithful member serving as a deaconess and as the church financial secretary. Rowena retired from the City of Lynchburg Department of Social Services. She was chairperson of the Appomattox Social Services Board. She graduated from the former Carver-Price High School, Appomattox, VA and Central Virginia Community College, Lynchburg, VA. She also attended Virginia State University, Petersburg, VA.
Preceding her in death were her loving mother, Margaret Reed Ferguson, and the love of her life, Stewart Evan Robinson. They were united in marriage for 45 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her father, Manley Ferguson, Sr. of Concord, VA; three loving daughters: Lequetta (Howard) Robinson Hayes, DBHDS Senior Human Rights Advocate, of Madison Heights, VA; Dr. Kristy (Clyde) Robinson-Lee of Evington, VA; and Judge Karen R. Robinson of Charlottesville, VA; a faithful brother, Manley (Vanessa) Ferguson, Jr. of Concord, VA; two sisters-in-law, Jacquetta Robinson Pettigrew of Appomattox, VA and Gwendolyn Robinson of Lynchburg, VA; a niece, Denise Ferguson of Concord, VA; a nephew, Manley Ferguson, III of Concord, VA; special cousins who were more like siblings to her, Jo Ann (Gerald) Mosley of Concord, VA; Geneva Napier of Spout Spring, VA; Daisy Watkins of Concord, VA; Donald (Linda) Ferguson of Concord, VA; and Lucy (Norman) Haskins; and a host of cousins and friends.
Rowena was passionate about her family. She was the family historian and served as the secretary for the Ferguson-Megginson Family Reunion Committee. She loved to read, cook, and was active in her church and the community. She served as the treasurer of the Carver-Price Alumni Association and as the Local Planning District President of the Virginia Benefit Programs Organization. She enjoyed traveling, especially her yearly trip to Myrtle Beach with her extended family.
Rowena left college to get married and start a family at a young age. Her proudest moment was when she obtained her associate degree in business management from Central Virginia Community College, while raising her family and working. Her favorite picture of herself was in her cap and gown.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Mount Shiloh Baptist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Repast to follow in the church's fellowship hall.
