Roger Davis Smith of Amherst, Virginia, age 77, passed away from this life on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Fairmont Crossing Nursing Home. He was born to the late Betty Smith on December 14, 1946, in Amherst, Virginia. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Sonny Smith.

He loved the Lord and was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, and he loved his family and friends. He enjoyed watching old westerns and listening to a variety of music. He really enjoyed gospel music and listening to oldies but goodies, his favorite artist was Jimmy Reed. Roger also enjoyed playing guitar, making people laugh, visiting his neighbors, and he loved hats.

Roger is survived by a devoted Aunt, Joanna Sandidge (Franklin); four sisters, Janice Carter, Deloris Payne (Edward), Faye Smith of Lynchburg, VA, and Belle Sue Riley of Fort Washington, MD; three brothers, Kenneth Smith of Buena Vista, VA, Carlton Smith of Lynchburg, VA; and Chester Smith of Indiana; devoted cousins, Richard, Barbara, Theodore, Theresa, Tracey, Carolyn, Maurice, Keith, and Fredia, and nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Roger will truly be missed by those who knew and loved him.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2023, at New Jerusalem Baptist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the residence of his aunt, Mrs. Joanna Sandidge. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
