Rodney Lee Johnson departed this life on January 08, 2023. Born in Lynchburg, VA on November 02, 1961, he was the son of the late Riley Johnson, Sr., and Alice Johnson Hudson (Stepfather, Thomas Hudson). In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Phillips; brother, Steve Johnson; and grandmother, Ms. Connie Franklin.

Rodney joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church at an early age and always loved gospel music. Often, he would attend Rivermont Baptist Church to hear Reverend James Cobbs sing. He also went many Sundays with his friend, Welford Brown to Shekiyah Preparation Assembly to hear music from Bishop and Mrs. Terrence Sykes. Rod attended E.C. Glass High School and later received a GED from Chesapeake Job Corp.

Rod is survived by his mother, Alice Hudson; stepfather, Thomas Hudson; wife, Sue Johnson; one daughter, Paris Johnson; three sons, Courtney Horton, Rodney Johnson, Jr., and Tajah Franklin; two brothers, Dwayne Johnson (P'trice) and Riley Johnson, Jr.; one sister, Natasha Johnson; three grandchildren; one aunt, Laura Franklin; two uncles, James Franklin, and Leroy Franklin; and a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Davis-Turner Funeral Service. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
