Roberta Womack of Gladstone passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born on November 19, 1944 to the late Walter and Mary Fannie McDaniel Ferguson.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Bass Ferguson, Jr. and James Ferguson.
Roberta was a devoted Christian, loving wife and devoted mother. She was an athlete, community activist and very active in the Appomattox community. Roberta was a gifted musician for many churches in the central Virginia area. Roberta also took great pride in the Piedmont Journal where she worked and gave of her talent.
Those left to cherish her memory including her loving and devoted husband, Charles Womack, Sr., of Gladstone; two sons, Charles Womack, Jr. and Rev. Shawn T.L. Womack (Monica); one devoted daughter, Shayla "Princess" Womack; two brothers, Rev. Charles Douglas Ferguson, Sr. (Marcia), of Appomattox and Rev. Rickey Ferguson, Sr. (Theresa), of Concord; four sisters, Serena Higginbotham (Paul), Flossie Davis (Raymond), both of Amherst, Lucy Haskins (Norman) and Gwen Brown (Glenn) both of Concord; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 PM Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Appomattox High School, Appomattox with Rev. Foster, officiating and her son Rev. Shawn T.L. Womack, as eulogist. The interment will be in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Concord. The family will receive friends Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Concord from 6-8 Pm.
