IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Leroy
Williams
December 1, 1951 – March 5, 2021
Robert Leroy Williams Sr. was born on December 1, 1951, to the late Vergie and Earl Williams of Forest, Virginia. God whispered, "your battle is no more it's time to come home" and welcomed him into the heavenly gates Friday, March 5, 2021.
Growing up in Forest being a hard worker was expected of all young men. So, Leroy started shining shoes for change at the Boonsboro Shopping Center at the recommendation of his father. He cherished his hot rods, especially the 58' Chevy, the louder the better, and fancied himself a stellar driver. Soon after he would become a bus driver for Susie G. Gibson High School where he was known by the nickname, "Thirsty". Some would think that nickname came from later in life, but it did not. In 1970, being in the last graduating class of Susie G. Gibson High School, Thirsty took to driving as a career option driving for both Markham's Fruit Market and Gunnoe's Sausage Company. Starting a family, in 1972, led Leroy to become a meter reader for American Electric Power (AEP) which allowed him to move through the ranks retiring with over 40 years of service, in 2013. Leaving him with his favorite job of all retirement.
Leroy never met a stranger and was always ready to show people a good time. Any person that ever got the pleasure to meet him would have a story to tell. From his time singing in the Altha Grove Baptist Church Adult Choir with his loving sisters to standing in line at a routine trip to the convenience store. He enjoyed telling a good lie, playing horseshoes, Bid Whist and he could play a mean game of Spades. His love of Westerns was only matched by his love of the Philadelphia Eagles. So, if you stopped by to see him outside of a sports game you were tormented with a Western (black and white was his favorite). Thirsty believed in a good wager but was only willing to bet a quarter. Robert Leroy Williams Sr.'s adventures in life and enduring tall tales will forever bring laughter long after his life journey's end.
In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Alan Williams, his granddaughter Remington Pearl Carter Williams, his sisters, Shirley Anderson (William) and Katie Calloway (Mack), and his former spouse Alice Marvina White. Leroy leaves to celebrate his memories, his children: Robert Leroy Williams, Jr. of Greensboro, NC; Marvin Earl Williams (Regina) of Charlotte, NC; Dianna Nichole Williams of Forest, VA; Joanna Gail Morgan of Evington, VA; and Jason Quentin Williams (KimberLee) of Charlotte, NC; fourteen grandchildren: Nigel, Imani, Kimari, Melanie, Rebekah, Makayla, Jessica, Madison, Kennedy, Seth, Heaven, WynterLove, Reign, and Royal; his sister, Marie Rucker (George) of Lynchburg, VA; an uncle, Thomas Jefferson (Doris) of Lynchburg, VA; a dear friend, Eula Jackson of Lynchburg, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held 2PM Tuesday, March 09, 2021 at Davis-Turner Funeral Service with Rev. Marcus Jones, Officiating and Rev. Thomas Harper, Eulogist. Interment will be in the Altha Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. COVID precautions will be in place. Please wear a mask. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
