Robert Roland Hamlett, of Lynchburg, was called home November 21, 2013. He was born June 14, 1935 to the late Theodore and Lorena Hamlett in Campbell Co. VA.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Elsie Hamlett, one son Fitch Lee Jackson, and three brothers Frank, James, and Willie Hamlett.
Robert leaves behind three children Richard Berkley (Gloria), Lorena Hamlett, and Robert "Louis" Hamlett (DeJoyce); god-daughter Deona Vick; four grandchildren Charlena Banks (Anthony), Richard Berkley Jr., Delontay Davis (Amy), and Jeremy Hubbard (Yvette); nineteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. One brother Melvin Hamlett, one sister Martha Berkley, those he helped raised Herbert "Man" Green, Shakatia Vick, and Shankatia Vick, and a host of nieces nephews and loved ones.
Robert worked at Archer Creek Foundry and than spent many years running his fruit truck and sitting on the porch with friends and family.
Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman. He often enjoyed days on the river with his sons and grandsons.
The family wants to thank the UVa Dialysis Center for the care they gave Robert over the years and the Diadbetic/Renal Unit at Lynchburg General Hospital for the excellent care in his final days. We also send out a special thank you out to Kathrine Farrow, nurse at General Hospital.
