Obituary

Mr. Richard M. Harris

August 8, 1955- December 11, 2021

"The most beautiful things in life are not things. They're people and places and memories and pictures. They're feelings and moments and smiles and laughter."

Richard M. Harris departed this life on Saturday, December 11, 2021 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He attended Bowie State University for two years before returning to help out in the family business. Richard was the consummate perfectionist which was clearly demonstrated by his work ethic in his father's construction business, his work in higher education alongside his sister, Eddie, the juvenile justice system, his sense of style, the artwork he produced and his devotion to his family. Richard was not pretentious- you either knew him or you did not. Richard lived honestly and openly, and he lived life to the fullest. He gave his all in both word and deed. He would not entertain negative thoughts or conversation during his battle with cancer. Regardless of what the doctors said about his condition, Richard's retort was "No gloom and doom!" He continued to the do the things he loved until his condition worsened and he could not get around. Even then, he loved spending time with those who gave him peace of mind, peace in his heart and peace in his soul.

He was one of three sons born to the late William H. Harris, Sr. and Katheryn Dickey Harris. Additionally, he was preceded in death by two siblings, William N. Harris, Sheila Rathers Parker and his nephew, Omar King. Left to cherish the memory are his devoted wife, Cynthia Daniel Harris, a stepson, Jewels Daniel and his daughter Chanel; his eldest sister Edwina H. Hamby (William-deceased) and her sons Darius Hamby and William Hamby, Jr.; his brother Angelo Harris and his children, his brother Michael (Christi) and their children, Christopher Harris, Andrew Harris, Isobel Harris and Sara Harris, his late sister Sheila's children, Tanya Veney (William), Ronald Rathers, II (Candace) Kelli Patel. Additionally, Richard is survived by a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Cynthia and the family are especially grateful to Richard's beloved cousin, Evelyn Dickey White and his niece, Tanya Veney for their care and guidance during Richard's illness, his Goddaughter Briany Price Reid and his dear friends, Jessica Davis and Pat Price. Richard will forever be remembered for his not so subtle sense of humor and his straightforwardness in every situation, his loud laugh, his willingness to help others, his love of truth above everything and his love of life!

A memorial service will be held Saturday 2:00 PM December 18, 2021 at Davis-Turner Funeral Service with Michael G. Harris, officiating.  Condolences may be sent to www.Davis-Turner.com .  Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
