Richard Lewis Berkley, Jr., 53, of Lynchburg, Virginia, was called home on May 27, 2026, when God dispatched His angels to bring him into eternal rest. Born in the Bronx, New York, Richard was known for his humor, strength, presence, and the relationships he shared with those who knew and loved him.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Spaulding Berkley; and his sister, Charlena Berkley Banks. He leaves to cherish his memory his father, Richard Berkley, Sr.; godmother, Shirley Reynolds (William); his sister, Amy Mitchell Swann (Francis); brother-in-law, Anthony Banks; his children, RaShonda Berkley, Trey Richard Berkley, III, Natassja Murphy, and Sy’Naisha Bruce, who were loved by Richard throughout his life. Richard also leaves behind 15 beloved grandchildren, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

Though he is no longer physically with us, Richard’s memory will continue to live on through the love of his family, the lives he touched, and the moments shared with those closest to him

A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Davis-Turner Funeral Service. Interment will be in the Springhill Cemetery.
