Reverend Hester Gilbert Hogue Easley
Rev. Hester Easley transitioned this life quietly and without reservation at her home (1804 Dearborn Rd. in Evington, VA) on Saturday, August 27, 2016 following an extended illness. She was born on February 9, 1932 and was the oldest of nine children born to the late Percy and Rebecca Gilbert of Gladys, Virginia; and widow of the late John Elias Hogue and James Edward Easley.
She was a faithful member of the Mt. Pisgah C.M.E. Church in Evington, Virginia and served with much dedication (beyond the call of duty) until her death as a Stewardess and later as an Assistant Pastor following her call to the Gospel Ministry at the age of 78; in spite of her age and multiple medical challenges…she preached her last sermon on Sunday, August 21, 2016. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by four brothers; Goldsborough, Charles, Joseph, and Percy Gilbert and one sister; Elizabeth Gilbert Reese.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three brothers; Benjamin Conway Gilbert (Ollie), John Marshall Gilbert (Martha), and Rev. Major Hiram Gilbert (Brenda); three sisters; Mary Holmes, Louise Arnold, and Rosa Cunningham (Vincent); two stepchildren; Charles Thomas Hogue, Jr. (Rev. Patricia Hogue) and Yvonne Hogue Preston (Harvey, Sr.) and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Chapel Grove Baptist Church, in Evington with Rev. Leonard Jones, officiating. The interment will be in the Church Cemetery. The family will have a Christian Wake on Friday, September 2, 2016 at Mt. Pisgah C.M.E. Church from 7-8:00 PM and greeting friends all other times at 1804 Dearborn Rd. (Route 696) in Evington.
