Sunday Morning, December 04, 2022, at 7:00 AM, Reverend Dr. Edward Dennis Jones, Sr., fondly known to many as "Ed", encircled by his loving wife and children departed his earthly tabernacle and entered the Eve of Eternity! "We are confident, yes, well pleased rather be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8
Reverend Jones was born September 26, 1952, in Bedford County, to the late Bertha Jones Dickerson. During his formative years, He confessed Christ and was baptized at St. Paul Baptist Church in Forest, Virginia.
Reverend Jones attended Bedford County Schools. He was a Graduate of Liberty University and Fairhaven Bible College. He was a Moderator of the Rockfish Baptist Association, and he also served as Head Moderator of his district. In 2019, he was the recipient of a Doctor of Divinity degree from Eastern Theological Seminary. Reverend Jones supported the Virginia Baptist State Convention, he was the Chaplin at Amherst County Detention Center, the Chaplin of the Senior Golfers of Virginia, Chaplin at Davis-Turner Funeral Service for 14 years; and he volunteered as a Board Member on several community organizations.
Reverend Jones was devoted to the mission God anointed him to do! He was an excellent friend to many people in his church families, those who were lifetime friends, and the people who crossed his path daily! Reverend Jones pastored Shiloh Baptist Church in Bedford County and was pastor at Bolling Hill Baptist Church in Amherst County for 37 years! It was evident to everyone that Reverend Jones loved preaching the Word of God, and his life exemplified a true child of God.
Reverend Jones had a teasing, sarcastic sense of humor and a great smile that could brighten anybody's day. If you mentioned fishing or golf, he was always ready to go! Reverend Jones was a man who valued his relationship with his family and delighted in every moment they shared! Reverend Jones and his wife, Clara, opened their hearts and their home, and became Foster Parents to many children!
In addition to his mother, Pastor Jones was preceded in death by his son, Jermaine; 3 nephews, Edward Hunt, Keyshawn Dickerson, and Kevin Dickerson, Jr.; his father-in-law, William McCoy; and his mother-in-law, Clara McCoy, who loved him like a son.
An Ordained Minister, Reverend Edward Jones, Sr. leaves to celebrate His life and carry on His Legacy a Family that he loved and appreciated so much, his Beautiful Wife of 48 years, Clara McCoy Jones; His Children, Edward Jones, Jr., LaKeisha Jones Rucker (Ronald), LaShelle Jones, and Sherwin Jones; His 9 grandchildren, Aaron, Kairi, Kamaria, LaKyia, Ronald, Jr., Rhnyia, DeAndré, and Tyrique; 3 great-grandchildren, Amyla, Asier, and Gabriel; 4 sisters, Mary Wilkerson (George), Sheryl Hunt, Sheila Dickerson, and Marilyn Gibbon (Milton); and the Matriarch of his Family, His Aunt Marion Jones; 3 sisters-in-law, Darlene McCoy, Julia Wharton, and Eyvonne Green (Roy); 2 brothers-in-law, Theodore McCoy and Fred McCoy; numerous nieces and nephews; his good friend, William Johnson; and fellow Pastors in the Ministry and His Church Families.
"Somewhere a journey ends for his worldly existence we know. Somewhere time stretches over the stars, and rivers of memories flow. Somewhere a silence is heard far away, and hope fills the darkest night. When the trials of life are resolved into peace when a soul finds its way to the LIGHT."

A homegoing celebration will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 10, 2022, at St. Paul Baptist Church. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, December 09, 2022, at St. Paul Baptist Church, 4693 Everett Road, Forest, Virginia 24551. Interment will be in the St. Paul Baptist Church cemetery. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
