Obituary

Reuben Jones, 70, of Amherst, VA, departed this life and entered his eternal home and promised land on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. Reuben was born on July 30, 1944 to the late James T. and Emmarine Donigan Jones. In addition, to his parents he was preceded in death by six siblings Richard, James, Horace, Carl Lewis, Elsie Jackson and Helen Hearne.

Reuben was a member of the First Baptist Church of Coolwell in Amherst, VA. He worked at Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, VA for over thirty-five years. Post retirement, Reuben spent his time providing landscape maintenance and handy-man services. Reuben was greatly respected and loved by his family, friends, community, and all who knew him.

Reuben is survived by his wife, Daisy Johnson Jones of Amherst, VA; his son Randy Jones (Julia) of Lynchburg, VA; and his four daughters Beverly Rose (Michael) of Amherst, VA, Paula Harman (James) of Madison Heights, VA, Deirdre Eischens (Donald) of Lorton, VA, Patrice Jones of Alexandria, VA; and a daughter-in-law Carol Smith Jones of Madison Heights, VA.

In addition to his wife and children he leaves to mourn his two sisters Bertha Beverly of Madison Heights, VA and Martha Ann Witt (Cephaus) of Severn, MD; two brothers Henry Jones (Ruth) of New Jersey, NJ, and Willie Jones (Mae) of Amherst, VA; two aunts, Edith Jones, of Amherst and Helen Franklin, of Madison Heights; nine grandchildren (Teanna Jones, Nicole Rose, Diana Jones, Shante Thompson, Kenneth Moten, Shapiro Keeling, Sydney Eischens, Alexandria Jones, Tyler Eischens), one great granddaughter (Nakayla Thompson), four adopted grandchildren (Krystal Ware, Sharon Buford, Sylvia Thomas, and Arlene Tucker) and host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, September 15, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Coolwell with Rev. Edward Jones officiating and Rev. Ernest Scott, as Eulogist. The family will be receiving friends at the residence. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
