Obituary

Paris Milton Lenon departed this life on September 30, 2017 at his residence. He was born August 3, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Paris Lenon and Florence Lenon Coleman. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Linda Tansmore and Catherine Wells and his step-father, James Coleman.
Paris attended public school in the Philadelphia School District and graduated from Bok Technical High School in 1963. He attended North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education in 1968.  The summer before his last year of college, he married his college sweetheart and, after graduation, they moved to Lynchburg, VA.  He was employed at Campbell County High School as a Physical Education teacher and basketball coach.  He transferred to the Appomattox School System where he served in the same position.  In 1974, he was employed by the City of Lynchburg, Parks and Recreation Division as Assistant Director, the position he kept until his retirement in 1999.
From a very early age, Paris loved sports. This became evident as he excelled at many different areas.  In middle school he won several swimming awards including 1 st Place in "Butterfly".  In high school he lettered in five different sports (basketball, football, track and field, baseball and soccer).  This was a first in the school system, requiring them to create a special trophy for such an accomplishment. Immediately following high school he was offered a contract to play professional baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies, however, he decided to accept a basketball scholarship and pursue a degree. After college he was introduced to tennis and enjoyed playing tennis so much that most recently, he competed in the Senior USTA circuit.
Paris will be missed by many due to his "gift of gab". He loved to talk to anyone and never met a stranger.  Many will also miss the delicious summer vegetables he loved to plant and grow, mainly to give away to his friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of fifty years, Audrey Lee Lenon; two dedicated and adoring children, Nicole Renee Lenon of Baltimore, MD and Paris Michael Lenon (Heather) of Chandler, AZ; four grand children, Nicholas Michael, Paris Mason, Amirah Marie and Jalen Michael; a brother-in-law, Frank Lee (Mattie); sisters-in-law, Annette Brockett (Charles) and Shirley Lee; an aunt, Sarah Bradsher; an uncle, Rubin Hunter; nephews, Sean Lenon, Keith Lee, Derrick Lee and Troy Brockett; nieces, Karen Wells, Kim Wells, Kelly Crosby and Kristin Zane; three god children, Tonya Clark Trotman, Paris Bradsher and Dwayne K. Ellis, Jr. and many other relatives and friends.
