Norvell Lamont Stratton, who always went by Lamont and was also called "Big Stick" and "Rubber", was born on December 1, 1950, to the late Norvell Lester Stratton and Margaret Pettigrew Stratton.
He passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at his home in Concord, VA, at the age of 72, surrounded by all his family.
Lamont was employed by Kimble Glass (Gersheimer/ONI-Owens Illinois) for over 30 years.
Lamont met his wife, Enid Townsend in the early"70s" and later married her in 1998. She was the Love of his Life and by his side until the end.
He was the president of the Brothers of the Bell Motorcycle Club and a long-standing member of the Free Rollers and Co. Motorcycle Club. His favorite hobby was riding, "Lucille", his Harley Motorcycle. He loved watching football and of course he was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved having our yearly family gathering he did the barbequing until he passed it on to Big Bubba who he loved and chose. Lamont loved sitting on his front porch watching his children, grandchildren, and great grands play in the yard. Lamont was so strong he fought a long and hard fight and never said why me, he cracked jokes until the end.
In addition to being predeceased by his mother and father he was also preceded in death by one son, Kevin Joseph Herra of FL; and one sister, Gina Stratton Brown of NJ.
Lamont is survived by his wife, Enid Stratton; his children, Vincent Lamont Stratton of NJ, Shannon Sophia Stratton Peery (Cameron) of NJ, Cheryl Lyn Stratton of NJ, Terrence Lamont Stratton of NJ, and Vinton Lettice Townsend of VA.
Lamont also leaves to cherish his memory 7 siblings and their spouses, Sharon D. Boose (Allen-deceased) of VA, Margretta E. Harris (Rufus) of VA, Anthony V. Stratton (Serena) of VA, Timothy L. Stratton (Rhonda) of VA, Catherine T. Hannah (Osway) of VA, Flossie A. Garrett (Charles) of NJ, and Kim F. Jones of VA; and brother-in-law, Melvin Brown of NJ.
In addition to his siblings, he is survived by a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and acquaintances.
Lamont was loved by many. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and our big brother. He will truly be missed and forever in our hearts.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Davis-Turner Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Davis-Turner Funeral Service. Interment will be in the Archer Creek Cemetery. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
