"And He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will no longer be death. There will be no longer sorrow and anguish or crying or pain, for the former order of things has passed away." Revelations 21:4, Amplified
On Wednesday morning, August 21, 2024, at Guggenheimer Health and Rehab Center, Melvin L. McCoy departed his Earthly life to enter his Eternal life.
Melvin was born July 12, 1938, to the late Mable and Edward McCoy of Appomattox, VA. He attended Appomattox County High School. At an early age, Melvin was baptized and accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He attended Sunday School, sung on the Junior Choir, and loved to participate in the Church's Christmas plays. One of Melvin's favorite Gospel songs was, "Something About the Name Jesus".
Melvin's first job was a truck driver, later he was employed at Lynchburg Foundry for 25 years then moved on to Rock Tenn where he was employed for 15 years. He considered Lynchburg Foundry and Rock Tenn as working 40 years on the river.
His favorite sport that he loved to watch on TV was the Washington Nationals baseball team. Hunting and fishing were his personal way of relaxing. He loved to make you laugh by telling jokes to his family and friends. One of his biggest enjoyments of life was playing Spades with his grandchildren. Melvin's sense of humor would always put a smile on your face.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his brothers, Woodson McCoy and John McCoy, both of Appomattox.
Leaving to cherish Melvin's memory are his wife, Amanda J. McCoy of 65 years; his children, Melvene McCoy and Timothy McCoy (Arlene) all of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Ebony Turner (Rick) of Wake Forest, NC and Timothy McCoy, Jr. of Lynchburg; one sister, Daisy Watkins of Concord, VA; one brother, Augustus McCoy of Appomattox, VA; one uncle, Ruben McCoy of Baltimore, MD; two close friends, Reverend Harrison Kelso and Bobby Booker; many nieces, nephews, and friends will also share and cherish his memories.
A special heartfelt thank you to Cheryl and Katie and the staff of the Diagnostic Center (Davita Dialysis).
Melvin will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Our Earthly Loss is Heaven's Gain.
A celebration of life will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Davis-Turner Funeral Service with the Reverend John Braxton as Eulogist. Mr. McCoy will be on view one hour prior to the service. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
