"Realize, Recognize and Understand" A quote Matthew said all too often as we all know. Matthew was affectionately known as "Soupa Chicken" was the baby of seven children born to the late James and Theresa Charlton. He is preceded in death by his brothers, James Charlton Jr. "Dude", Jerry Charlton and his sister, Stella Helm.
Matthew leaves to cherish his memory three sons; Matthew Jr., Justin (Laurel, MD) and Ryan Charlton (Lynchburg, VA). His one and only daughter Brianna Charlton (Washington, D.C). One sister Johanna Tinsley "Leonard" (Clifton forge, VA), Two brothers; Harry "Teresa" Charlton (Griffin, Ga), Stacey "Patricia" Charlton (Rustburg, VA) and One sister-in-law Pastor Ruth Charlton (Rustburg, VA). He also leaves five grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and lifetime friends.
Matthew attended Rustburg High School and was an avid football player during his attendance. Matthew received his certification in brick masonry and until his passing was currently pursuing his craft for over 33 years. Matthew married Michele Ward and during that union had two children. During his life he enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, and enjoying friends. Matthew was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of Justin, Brianna And Ryan and always tried his best to support them.

A celebration of life will be held 2PM Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Hill's Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Joseph Charlton, Eulogist. COVID precautions will be in place. Please wear a mask. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
