MARY ANN TANNER, age 64, quietly entered into her eternal resting place on early Saturday morning, August 30, 2014. She was born on April 3, 1950 to Lawrence M. Tanner, Sr., and Annie Ruth Harvey Tanner of Spout Spring, (Appomattox County) Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Harvey Tanner and two of her siblings, Lawrence "Butterball" Tanner, Jr. and Emma Jean Tanner Green.
Mary Ann attended Western High School in Baltimore, MD, and graduated in 1968. She attended Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA with a double major in Political Science and Social Studies. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree after only three and a half years of study. During her Sophomore year, she became interested in Sororities and joined Beta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, INC.
Mary Ann entered the work force in February, 1972 and worked in the following school systems; Albemarle County, Appomattox County and Henrico County School Systems.
She is survived by her father, Lawrence M. Tanner, Sr. of Spout Spring, VA; two sisters, Demaris Chantay Tanner, of Spout Spring and Sonya Renee Tanner, of Baltimore, MD; a brother, Timothy "Tim" Tanner, of Spout Spring; two aunts, Emma H. Lyons, of Clinton, MD and Shelley Harvey, of Spout Spring; two uncles, Robert W. Harvey and J. McKinley Tanner, of Spout Spring and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church, Spout Spring, with Rev. Albert Read, Officiating and Rev. Dr. Willie Green, Sr. as Eulogist.
