Friday Afternoon, June 7, 2024, at 2:17 p.m. Louis Boyd, Jr. known to many as "Sonny or Sonny Boy", age 73, departed his earthly home and entered into his eternal heavenly home to be at peace with JEHOVAH at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Louis Boyd, Jr. was born July 6, 1950, in Macon County in a town called Roba, Alabama. He was the son of the late Louis Boyd, Sr. and Estella Green Boyd Hardy.
Sonny attended Macon County schools. After attending Macon County schools Sonny worked at Bibb Mill and Eagle & Phenix Mill in Columbus, Georgia and he also worked at The Brickyard in Phenix City, Alabama. Before Sonny became ill, he led an active life. He loved to travel all over the East Coast, and he never knew a stranger, all the way from Florida, to Alabama, to Georgia, to Virginia, to New York, and yes even out west to Texas. Sonny Loved Life and the great outdoors where he used to pick fruit in his younger days. He Loved to play card games and yes back in the day shoot dice. Sonny Loved his devoted Sister, "BabyDoll", known to us as Leola Boyd Chilton, and all of his family members. Sonny was a loyal friend to many.
Louis Boyd, Jr. was also preceded in death by 5 brothers, Eugene "Moot" Boyd, Leon "Mane" Boyd, Eddie "Love" Boyd, Clarance Boyd, and Hiawatha "Tot" Boyd. Louis Boyd, Jr. was preceded in death by 1 sister, Bernice "Len" Boyd. Louis Boyd, Jr. leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted loving sister, Leola "Doll" Boyd Chilton, and brother-in-law, William Chilton of Madison Heights, Virginia. His sons, Gregory Brown of Detroit, Michigan, Darrell Brown of Hurtsboro, Alabama, and Marcus White Boyd of Bartow, Florida. Four devoted nieces who helped care for him, Daphne Booker "Ray" of Madison Heights, Virginia, Nicole Boyd, Dreama Boyd, and Chantell Boyd Lacy of Roanoke, Virginia. A sister-in-law, Karen D. Boyd of Roanoke, Virginia. Three devoted nephews, Wendell Boyd of Lynchburg, Virginia, Teon Boyd, and Anthony Boyd-Muse of Roanoke, Virginia. Two aunts, Beatrice Green Myers of Houston, Texas, and Willie Green Gates of Columbus, Georgia. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Davis-Turner Funeral Service. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
