On September 16, 2018, Lorraine Margaret ("Ma", "Mama", "Grama", "MaRene", "MamaRene") Cox Porter, age 102, entered the heavenly portals of eternal rest at Lynchburg Health Rehabilitation Center.

She was born March 6, 1916 to the late Preston Howard Cox and Betty Ann Hill Cox.  Lorraine was preceded by her husband, Clayton Benjamin Porter; her sons, Joseph Louis Porter, Sr., Ernest Eugene Porter and an infant son.  She was also preceded by all of her siblings, six sisters and three brothers.

Lorraine is survived by nine children, Alphonzo Porter (Barbara, deceased), Joyce McCray (Randolph, deceased), all of Lynchburg, Revell Smith (James, deceased), of Greensboro, NC, Rosell Johnson (James), Lorraine "Margie" Hubbard (Henry), Clyde Porter (Carolyn, "Pat"), Edgar Porter, (Valerie, "Val"), Cynthia Porter, and Perry Porter (Joyce), all of Lynchburg; two daughters-in-law, Marie Porter and Wanda ("Winnie Gail") Porter, of Lynchburg; 35 grandchildren; 70 great grandchildren; 49 great-great grandchildren; 2 great-great-great grandchildren; two senior nieces, Bernetta Roberts, of Hunting, NY and Lessie Cox, of Lynchburg; one senior nephew, Alvin Gibson, of Brooklyn, NY and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was a member of Mt. Peeler Baptist Church where she served in the past as an usher, senior choir member, Sunday School teacher, church clerk, a willing workers club member and a former kitchen committee member.

Lorraine was educated at Leet School in Campbell County, a member of Archer Creek Burial Society and was retired from Imperial Reading in Lynchburg, VA.
