God saw the road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb, so he closed your eyes, and whispered “Peace Be Thine”. Your days of pain have passed, but to us who loved and lost you, your memory will never grow old.

Lolita Marguerite Winston was born to Virginia Winston-Terrell on Friday, April 29, 1966, and transitioned to be with the Lord on July 13, 2026.

Lolita was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lois and David Winston; Aunts, Elizabeth Young, Catherine Stevenson, and Alice Diggs; and her devoted friend, Brenda Brown.

A New York native, she received her education in the Mt. Vernon public school system and graduated in 1984 with honors.

Lolita relocated to Lynchburg, Virginia in 1989, and later joined Rivermont Baptist Church and remained an active member until declining health.

Lolita’s strong work ethic was evident throughout a lifetime of employment in healthcare, serving years at Central Virginia Training Center.

Lolita believed in telling it exactly like it was and valued honesty above all else. She was fearless in expressing her opinions, and lived authentically, never pretending to be anyone but herself. Beneath her tough exterior was a heart that loved deeply, and a bold personality that made her unforgettable.

Lolita leaves behind a legacy of love to her children, Derrell and Da’Nai Basnight; her mother, Virginia Winston-Terrell; five granddaughters: Armoni Winston, Da’niyah Gilbert, Da’Mani Basnight, Tameia Bryant, and De’Nyallah Cook; two aunts, Lucy Payne and Margaret Respass; three soul sisters, Vonya Judkins (Jeffrey), Terry Sutton (Alvin), and Yvette Smith (Mathew); one son-in-love, Sherman Harris; one Godson, Michael Phelps, Jr.; two bonus sons, Nick Sandidge and Jamarr Brinkley; a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

Today we celebrate a life well lived and a love that will never fade. Though our hearts grieve, we rejoice in knowing that Lolita has been welcomed into God’s loving arms, where there is no more pain or suffering. Rest peacefully, Mommy, until we meet again.
