On October 28, 2008, God quietly sent an angel to take him home to be with the Lord. Leroy was born September 9, 1940 in Campbell County to the late Hattie C. Smith and Deacon Robert J. Smith. He leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, Annie Hughes of Lynchburg and Bernice Lewis of Rustburg; seven brothers, Alroy (Pearl) of Rustburg, Randolph (Gladys) Smith, Deacon James (Hazel) Smith, all of Evington, Curtis (Barbara) Smith, Earl (Leana) Smith both of Washington, DC, Clayton Smith, of Lynchburg and William (Joyce) Smith of Altavista; devoted niece and caretaker, Brenda (Bernard) Mitchell and a host of other devoted nieces, nephews, and special friends.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Mt. Evergreen Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Lee, Sr., officiating and Rev. Carrington Banks, eulogist. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends, Friday from 7-8 PM at Davis-Turner Funeral Service and other times at 943 George St. Lynchburg.
