Leroy D. Bedford passed away on Friday, September 23, 2016 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Leroy was the son of the late Estelle and Thomas Bedford. He was born in Harlem, New York on December 20, 1940.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Bedford.
Leroy grew up in Virginia and accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Mt. Peeler Baptist Church and graduated high school in New York then enlisted in the US Navy. After serving in the Navy he lived in New York and he had two children, Leroy Bedford, Jr. and Letita Bedford. He worked for the New York City Transit Authority as a Train Operator.
Leroy united in marriage to Renee Cook Bedford in 1995. He retired from the New York Transit Authority and moved back to Virginia in 2004.
Leroy loved people and to make them laugh and he made lots of friends.
He is survived by his wife, Renee Bedford; his son, Leroy Bedford, Jr.; his daughter, Letitia B. Valentin and her husband, Jose Valentin; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four aunts; two nieces; six nephews; one brother; two sisters-in-law and a host of cousins and friends.
A funeral service will held 1:00 PM Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Mt. Peeler Baptist Church with Rev. Coles, officiating. The interment will be Archer Creek Cemetery.
