On Monday, September 23, 2024, Leona Virginia Hood departed this life at the age of 100. She was born on March 8, 1924, to the late Eugene and Virginia Miller Hood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, William Hood; her brothers, Lawrence, Andrew, and Bernard Hood; and three sisters, Selena Hood Gardner, Geraldine Hood; and Nannie Jones.

Leona, affectionately known as "Nonnie", became a member of New Vine Baptist Church at an early age where she attended regularly until age prevented her from doing so. She worked at Dickies until she retired. She enjoyed being outdoors and working in her yard.

She leaves to cherish her memory: a daughter, Alfreda Hood; two grandchildren, Mark Hood and Jermawn Hood; two great-grandchildren, Markia and Mark Hood, Jr.; six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Sophia Suitt; one brother, Eugene Hood, Jr. (Jean); a daughter-in-law, Paula Hood; a sister-in-law, Johnnie Hood; a devoted caretaker, Shirley Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2024, at New Vine Baptist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
