Obituary

Deacon Larnell J. Rose departed this life at the age of 98 on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Arrington, VA on August 25, 1927, to the late Stuart and Muriel Rose. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, six brothers, Thurman, Henry, Stuart, Wilson, Charlie, and William; four sisters, Mary, Pearl, Nancy, and Annie.

Larnell was educated in the Nelson County Public School System. He was drafted into the Army and served for one and a half years. Upon being honorably discharged, he then relocated to New Jersey. He joined the Angelic Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee and was later ordained as a Deacon. Larnell married Geneva Dickerson and to this union one son was born, Michael Rose. Larnell was employed at Western Electric for 34 years until it closed. Upon their retirement, Larnell and Geneva relocated to Geneva’s hometown, Amherst, VA. After moving to Amherst they united with First Baptist Church Coolwell, where he was a Deacon.

Larnell leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Geneva; his son, Michael and his wife, Beverly; one granddaughter, Nicole, the apple of his eye; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at First Baptist Church Coolwell. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Service of comfort entrusted to Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
