On August 16, 2013 in his home in Lynchburg, VA God called home his beloved son Lanny Gary Johnson. Lanny was purposed into this world on February 16, 1950 in Crumpler, West VA being born to the late Alexander Johnson and the late Elaine Murrell Johnson and also proceeded in death by his loving grandparents Arthur and Hannah Johnson and Robert and Clara Murrell.
The family relocated to Rustburg, VA at a very early age. He was educated in the Campbell County school system graduating in 1970 from Rustburg High School. He worked several jobs before working 25 plus years and retiring from the Greater Lynchburg Transit Company. Everyone that knows Lanny knows that he had a deep passion for working on cars; he could restore any lemon brought to his garage. He loved going to the drag strip, going fishing, being the in house comedian and most of all loved and cherished his family.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories his loving wife of 23 years Nina Johnson, three sons Wali Shabezz (Eric) of Torrington, CT, Jirmel Johnson and Derick Johnson of Lynchburg, VA , five daughters Lannette Smith, Ebony Johnson, KaTina Smith, Shantae Smith-Beverly and Nicole Johnson all of Lynchburg, VA, and 19 loving grandchildren, three brothers Ricky Johnson, Roger Johnson of New Haven, CT, Tony Johnson (Gloria) of Hamden, CT, five sisters Shirley Conner, Jo-Ann Johnson, Alfreda Piggott all of New Haven, CT, Linda Brock of Hampden, CT and Wanda Price of Martinsville, VA and host of nieces and nephews, three aunts Leatha Bonds, Mable Gravley of West Virginia and Henrietta Mack of Columbus, OH, devoted friends Fred Penn, Donnie Morgan, Mike Eubanks, Marcus Eubanks, Henry Ward, Emmitt Morgan, Lamont Banks, Stuart Mack along with a host of loving relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, August 23, 2013 at Immanuel Christian Church with Dr. Mack Johnson, officiating. The interment will be in the Baptist Cemetery.
