IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Knowlton
Richie
May 20, 1952 – May 29, 2023
Knowlton "Henary" Richie was born on May 20, 1952, the fourth child and eldest son to the late Knowlton Thomas Richie and Alpha Geraldine Minnis-Richie.
He was educated in Bedford County public schools and graduated from Susie Gibson High School.
He was baptized at an early age and became a member of Reed Creek Baptist Church, in Big Island, Virginia.
Over 46 years ago he met the love of his life, Robin Spinner-Richie whom he joined in holy matrimony on March 19, 1977. Upon this union, they had three children Edwanta, Jullian "Brian", and Eric.
Henary's passions in life included his love of tinkering with and racing his classic automobiles, playing his guitar on a beautiful summer day, and his grandchildren and especially his great-granddaughter.
He began a lifelong career in carpentry at Blake Construction and Four S Construction in Washington DC. Upon returning home he worked for C.L. Lewis Construction for over 25 years, where he became the first black Superintendent, supervising several sites including BWXT. Once retired, he enjoyed leisurely working with his nephew Jason Spinner in his several endeavors.
Henary was called to join his Heavenly Father on Monday, May 29, 2023, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his wife, Robin Spinner-Richie; his daughter, Edwanta Richie-Osbey (Jason Osbey); his sons, Jullian "Brian" Richie and Eric Richie. His grandchildren, Brianna Richie-Morris (Rashaad Morris), Justin Richie, Aamazziah Gilford, Issabella Gilford, Cyarra Johnson-Richie, Indya Osbey, Jayla Richie, and Desean Richie; and the apple of his eye, his great-granddaughter, Julienne Breanne "JB" Gilford. Also included in his memory are his siblings, Dorathy Lightfoot, Barbara Richie, Donald Richie (Almetrius Richie), and Elder Roscoe Richie (Sydney Richie). Devoted cousins, Jasper Minnis, Olive Minnis, and Margaret Minnis. Also, a devoted nephew, Jason Spinner (Jessica Spinner), loving in-laws, Tony Spinner (Linda Spinner), Eddie Spinner (Robert Durant), Michelle Spinner, and Billy Spinner (Madaline Spinner), and a host of nieces, nephews, families, and friends.
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Love Always, Robin
