Deacon Kenneth Wayne Smith, "Kenny Wayne", gained his heavenly wings and joined our Heavenly father on Saturday, March 05, 2022. Kenny was born to the late Deacon Earl Smith, Sr. and Deaconess Hattie Campbell Smith on June 11, 1939, in Amherst, VA.
Kenny accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and joined the St. Mary's Baptist Church, Lowesville, VA.
Kenny is preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Smith, Jr., and Gene Smith; two sisters, Shirley Smith Johnson, and Mae Smith Thomas; and three brothers-in-law.
Kenny attended school in Amherst County and received different certifications over the years. He joined the Army at a young age and upon leaving the military he began driving tractor trailers and continued to do so until retirement. He also served as an auxiliary deputy for Amherst County Sheriff's office.
Kenny joined the Morning Lodge #105, May 30, 1980, where he achieved many accomplishments and held titles of 1 st Lieutenant Mount Olive Grand Council, Potentate of the Ababah Temple #39, Grand Patron of the State of VA, Secretary of Morning Star Lounge #105, and the Past Grand Secretary of the Mount Olive Grand Council.
He was well known in Amherst County for his participation with various of choruses. He also enjoyed driving charter buses. He had a variety of hobbies including baseball and motorcycling. He was employed for a combination of over 50 years with Pilot Freight and Old Dominion Freight Line.
Kenny leaves to cherish his memory his devoted, loving wife, Ethel Smith; his only child, devoted daughter, Karen Enobakhare (Collins), of Charlottesville, VA; two step-daughters, LaShunda Johnson and Sharda Edmonds of Lynchburg, VA; his devoted grandchildren, Kevin Smith (Kathleen) of Gainesville, FL, Jermica Williams (Christopher) of Norfolk, VA, Clinton and Crown Enobakhare of Nigeria, Travis, La'Tia, Ta'Kiya, David, Tae'Shaunda and Ra'Shod; his loving great-grandchildren, Tianna, Zhai, Aveien, Geniyah, Christopher-Wilbert, Kayden, and Josiah, and an additional six great-grandchildren. Two devoted sisters, Phyllis S. Davis (Herman) and Genevieve S. Smith. A devoted nephew, Christopher Smith; a devoted niece, Martha Campbell; two uncles, two aunts, three sisters-in-law, six brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held 11AM Saturday, March 12, 2022, at St. Mary's Baptist Church with Reverend Troy Anderson as Eulogist. Interment will be in the church cemetery. MASKS are REQUIRED. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
