Kenneth Osmond Herndon, 68, suddenly departed this life Tuesday, October 9, at his residence. He was born in Rustburg on October 17, 1949, to the late Vance and Armelia Herndon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Aubrey, James, Carlton, and Carroll Herndon.
Kenneth was a graduate of the Campbell County High School.
He worked at the Archer Creek Foundry for 37 years before retiring. He then went to work at Georgia Pacific where he continued to work until the day of his passing. Kenneth enjoyed spending time on his farm where he raised cows and pigs.
He was a member of the Cross Road Baptist Church. During his early age, he sang on the junior choir and served on a few committees.
Kenneth was blessed with a very large family who he enjoyed spending time with and talking to on the phone. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 47 years, Elaine; their three children, Karen Herndon, Kenneth Herndon, Jr. and Devontay Herndon; and their two grandchildren, Kendall Herndon and Daquan Calloway. He also leaves his brothers Norman (Anna), Calvin (Gloria) and his sisters Jane (Frank) James, Patricia (Larry) Gray, Delnora (Thomas) Johnson, and Allie Herndon; brother-in law, John (Lois) Poindexter, sister-in law, Rhodie Herndon and two great aunts Carrie Clark and Adel Scott. He will also be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives and friends.
