Obituary

Juanita D. Haynes, 72, of Amherst departed this life on January 10, 2018 at Lynchburg General Hospital with her family at her side. She was born February 22, 1945 to the late King and Sally Douglas. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Lloyd E. Haynes, Sr.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Margie Harris; a grandson, Brian Dabney; three brothers and four sisters.

"Nanny" as she was affectionately known retired from the Amherst County Public School System after 35 years of service. She was a very dedicated daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  Raising her family with love, she always had a smile on her face and was never heard of complaining about the service she gave to others.  Whenever you entered her home you were made to feel welcome and always left with something in hand.  Passionate about animals, flowers and mankind in general, her deepest joy was in taking care of her grandkids.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Carolyn Rucker (John) and devoted daughter, Vanessa Haynes (John); a son, Lloyd Haynes, Jr. (Josephine); a devoted son-in-law, Calvin Harris; six grandsons, who made sure her grass was cut and wood was gathered; four granddaughters, including devoted granddaughter, Kimberly Turner and her husband, Sam who was her "road dog" Turner and Band-Aid-Fixer"; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Eugene Douglas (Jane), Joe Lewis Douglas (Florence) and Ray Douglas (Mae); two sisters, Shirley Dawson and Pauline Dawson (Leonard); three sisters-in-law, Vercina Douglas, Louise Richardson and Doris Douglas; one uncle, Bruce Douglas, of Buena Vista; one aunt, Mildred Douglas, of Buena Vista and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and to include her special friendship with Rev. Ernest and Rev. Sherleen Scott.

The family would like to thank Steve Alderfer at BRMCC, the Amherst County lifesaving crew. Also the family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to family, friends and all acts of acknowledgement during our time of need.  We love and appreciate you.
