Obituary

Deacon Joseph W. "Daddy Joe" Megginson, 84 of Gladstone passed away, Sunday April 26, 2009 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born October 05, 1924 to the late Eddie and Serena McCoy Megginson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Herman Megginson and Pete Megginson; two sister, Lucille Christian and Emily Franklin. Joe was a active member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, Appomattox were he served as Deacon and work for C&O Railroad for over 42 years.
Those left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife, Virginia "Ray' Megginson, of Gladstone; three children, Richard L. Megginson, of Concord, Lonell Jones, Appomattox and Barbara (Lawrence) Otey, of Madison Heights; sisters, Janie Christian, of Bedford, Betty Austin, of Spout Spring, Mary Ferguson, Baltimore, MD, and Roberta Gibson, Spout Springs; one brother, Marshall Megginson, of Baltimore, MD; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren; special son-in-law, Harold Jones, of Gladstone and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Mt. Airy Baptist Church with Rev. Troy Anderson officiating and Rev. Russell Lee, Sr. as eulogist. The interment will be in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 7-8 PM at Davis-Turner Funeral Service and other times at 163 Daniels Place, Madison Heights.
