Jimmy David Gaines was born to the late Frederick Douglas Gaines, Jr. and Annie Bell Page Gaines on March 14, 1952 at the house in Massies Mill, Virginia.  He was affectionately called "David" by his family and friends. On Friday, July 7, 2017. David peacefully departed this life while at the Hospice of the Piedmont Hospice House in Charlottesville, Virginia.

At an early age, David accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior. He was baptized and confessed his faith at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Massies Mill, Virginia.

David received his early education at the public school system in Nelson County, Virginia. He joined the US Army and was stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. While in the Army his tour of duties took him to Germany, France and other locations throughout the world. David received many awards during his career and was honorably discharged as a Master Sgt.

David loved the Lord, loved life and loved his family. And he would do anything for them.

David was preceded in death by his parents Frederick Douglas Jr. and Annie Bell Page. As well as his brothers John, Solomon, Samuel, Frederick III and Ray. He leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter Dawn Gaines; his sisters Shirlee Gaines Hoffman and Margaret Gaines Fields; his brothers Lance Jerry Gaines and Clarence Wilson Gaines and a host of aunts/uncles, nieces/nephews, cousins and friends.
