Jerry Gillispie Sorrells, 67, of Lynchburg, VA passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019. She was born to the late Roy Ben Gillispie and the late Bessie Jane Robertson. She was the devoted wife of Samuel Sorrells, Jr.

After working many years at Courtland Manufacturing and Archer Creek, she fulfilled her longtime dream of working in the medical profession. She earned her Medical Assistant Associate's Degree and worked as a nurse at Appomattox Medical Center until retiring in 2018.

She had unwavering faith, even in the face of adversity. She always had an encouraging word or scripture to share. She had a hearty, joyful laugh that would fill the room and make everyone around her smile. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother James Allen Gillispie. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Sam; children Brenda Glover, Wendy Penn (Allen), Dustin Sorrells (Michelle), and Charlene Trent; four sisters, Frances Gillispie, Alseter Revely (Claude), Jane Hollins (Anthony), and Annie Hall; two brothers, Roy Gillispie (Barbara) and Dean Gillispie; an uncle, Tim Floyd; an aunt, Ellen White; eight grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Monday, June 10, 2019 at Davis-Turner Funeral Service with Elder Alfred Jones.  The interment will be in the family cemetery in Appomattox.  Family and friends may view on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM.  Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
