James Edward Marshall "Jimmy" was born to the late Mary Elizabeth Marshall Ledbetter and the late John Wesley Herndon in Lynchburg, Virginia on December 2, 1953.  Due to the untimely passing of his mother, Mary Elizabeth Marshall Ledbetter, at the age of 9, he was raised by his Aunt Lillian Ross and Uncle Eugene Ross, his late Aunt Juanita Herndon and his aunts and uncles of the Marshall family.

On October 3, 2019, James Edward Marshall "Jimmy" was called home to be with the Lord at Lynchburg General Hospital.

In addition to his parents, James "Jimmy" was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Ann Marshall and stepmother, Julia Herndon.

James "Jimmy" was a simple but yet comical and big-hearted person and he would do anything for anyone without hesitation.

James "Jimmy" is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Judy Marshall; son, Bryan Marshall; daughter, Michelle James; granddaughter and great-grandson; sisters, Linda Herndon, Brenda Foster, Gloria Tweedy and Johnny Cunningham; brothers, Melvin (Helen) Herndon and Pierre Perkins; aunt, Lillian Ross; uncles, Earl (Ottoway), Marshall and Roger Herndon; brother-in-law, Perry Hughes and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
