James Ira Cundiff, Jr. departed this life on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Lynchburg General Hospital.

James Ira Cundiff, Jr. was born on January 17, 1952. He was the son of Mary Tweedy Cundiff and the late James Cundiff, Sr. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis L. Cundiff. James graduated from Brookville High School in 1970. Upon graduation, James enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served from 1970-1974 during the Vietnam War, later joined Cardinal Airlines, Rock Tenn, and Westminster Canterbury until he retired in 2014.

James confessed his Christian faith at an early age and joined the Mt. Evergreen Baptist Church in Evington, VA. James had a passion for cooking, and he prepared many exquisite dishes for his family and friends over the years. Some of his favorite hobbies included hunting and fishing. You could find James sitting in his recliner watching the weather channel, cooking shows, CNN, Westerns, and sports. James was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.

James is survived by his wife, Alfreda Bennett Cundiff of 47 years; daughters, Victoria Canada of Evington, VA, Latoria Potts (Jacotron) of Charlotte, NC, Vinetta Poindexter of Lynchburg, VA, Senior Chief Valinda Lewis of Norfolk, VA, and Vonda Casto of Lynchburg, VA; six grandchildren, Petty Officer 3 ^rd Class Vashon Cundiff, Diamond Cundiff, Jahvon Lewis, Jermale Poindexter, Jr., Xavier Poindexter, and Selena Lewis. Also, left to cherish his memory are devoted cousins, Sherry Richburg and Floyd Calloway; his mother-in-law, Ellen Bennett; his brother-in-law, Michael Bennett (Deborah); nieces, Michelle Bennett, and Dr. Marcia Bennett; and great nephew, Miles Bennett all of Lynchburg, VA; a very special niece, Teresa Ferguson of North Carolina; goddaughters, LaKisha Calloway Scott and Ebony McCoy; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Mt. Evergreen Baptist Church, Evington, VA.
