James (J.E.) Edward Brown, Sr. was born on July 20, 1942, in Buckingham County, Virginia, to the late William and Louise Brown. James otherwise known to many as "Pops" departed this world in the comfort of his home on November 23, 2025.

Growing up he attended Buckingham County Schools and Fork Union Baptist Church until adulthood, moving to Lynchburg, Virginia. He retired from Woodall & Lang after many years of dedicated service the majority of his life.

James loved the outdoors from all types of fishing: saltwater, fresh rivers, and lakes, he was an avid deer hunter for many years and never was afraid of hard work by gardening his own fruits and vegetables yearly.

J.E. was preceded in death by his devoted significant other, Evelyn; Children, Anita Brown and James Edward Brown, Jr.; Bonus children, Charles Booker, Michael Booker, and Virginia Booker; Siblings, John MacArthur, Kenny Brown, William Roosevelt, Patty Louise, Clarence Catino, Rodney Daniel, Lydia Brown Haskins; Sister-in-law, Emma Jean Johnson; and Brother-in-law, Richard Johnson.

He is survived by his son, Demond Brown. J.E. also had the pleasure of raising some bonus children that will continue to survive his memory; Cathleen (Stephon) Dillard, Earl (Donna) Booker, Dorothy (Kenneth) Banks; siblings, Annie Mae Brown, Delois Christine Brown, Meade (Valerie) LaSalle Brown, Governor (Mary Linda) Lewis Brown, Sister-in-law, Mildred Johnson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and acquaintances.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the Baptist Cemetery. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
