Ivanhoe "Pete" Christian, 59, entered into eternal rest at the Veterans Medical Center in Salem, VA on March 13, 2007. Ivanhoe was born on October 15, 1947, to the late Hope Willard Christian and his loving mother Dorothy S. Christian. He was preceded in death by one brother, George Christian and two sisters, Ella France Garland and Barbara Ann Garland. Ivanhoe accepted Christ at an early age and joined the New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Amherst County. He served on the Hospitality Committee. He was a truck driver before being drafted into the United States Army. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Until his health failed, he also served as a civilian in Fort Eustis. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Dorothy S. Christian; his wife, Ida R. Christian; one son, Victor Christian all of Amherst; one stepson, Christopher (Jennifer) S. Rose of Silver Springs, MD; two brothers, Leroy (Pearl) Christian and Davie Christian, both of Madison Heights; one sister, Jean (Calvin) Campbell, of Madison Heights; four sisters-in-law, Nanette Christian, of Madison Heights, Eva R. (Phillip) Sparrow, of Gladstone, Erma Jean Rose and Geneva B. Rose both of Lynchburg; brothers-in-law, Randolph S.(Shelia) Rose of Richmond, Cabell Rose of Pittsburg, PA, William Garland of Washington, DC and a devoted brother-in-law, James Garland of Amherst and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, March 17, 2007 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Amherst with Rev. Rodney Harris officiating. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.
