During the night of Monday, January 9, 2017, God dispatched His angel and escorted HOUSTON EDWARD WEST into eternal rest. He was born in Concord, October 12, 1921 to the late Daniel West and the late Mary Catherine West.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by all of his 13 siblings. He was married to the late Mary P. West until her passing in 2007.
HOUSTON was a devoted Deacon of The First Church of Jesus and retired from General Electric (Ericsson) after many years of service. He also served in the U.S. Army, World War II. HOUSTON was an avid farmer raising chickens and beautiful gardens. He had a special love for the youth and always encouraged them to seek the Lord and to live a holy life.
He leaves to celebrate his life, a goddaughter, Kimberly Dyke-Harsley, a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family; also a loving church family, neighbors and his caregivers, William and Linda Frey.
The family wishes to acknowledge the professional and compassionate care provided to Houston by Dr. David Wodicka, MD, Elaine Dameron, RN, Harold Jones, CNA and all the other Centra Staff.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, January 14, 2017 at First Church of Jesus 3rd and Jackson St. with Elder Garry Davis, officiating and Pastor William Anderson as eulogist. The interment will be in the West Family Cemetery, Concord. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
