Holice Delano Johnson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, at the age of 82. He was a long-time resident of Massapequa, NY, where he lived for over 40 years. Holice left a legacy of love, creativity, and quiet strength.
Holice was born to the late Deacon Maryland And Missionary Virginia Johnson on October 6, 1942, Holice proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. After his service, he built a lifelong career as a mechanic for the United States Postal Service in Manhattan, NY, where he worked with dedication for over 50 years until his retirement.
Holice was a talented artist, known for his exceptional leather work that captured both beauty and craftsmanship. He had a quiet charisma and a passion for cards and pool—often sharing laughter and competition with friends and family alike. Though many may not have known, Holice also had a beautiful singing voice that revealed his soulful and creative spirit.
In addition to his parents, Holice was preceded in death by his three brothers, James Johnson, Bishop Donald Johnson, and Lawrence Graves; along with his six sisters, Ida Mae Cox, Helen McPherson, Mary Ann Johnson, Joyce Brown, Esther Mae Johnson, and Gloria Jean Hunter. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Barbara Johnson; his loving son, Ronald Johnson and wife Ashaki; his cherished grandsons, Evan, Austin, and Eli; one brother, Vincent Johnson; three sisters, Violet Pringles, Ruth Johnson, and Pastor Christine Witcher (Bishop Sandy Witcher); his best friend, James "Rabbit" Scott (Camille); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. His presence will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at New Dearington Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Burial Park, with a repast immediately afterward back at New Dearington Baptist Church.
Holice's life was one of quiet strength, devotion, and creativity. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
