On Thursday Evening, October 22, 2009, Henry Lee "Buck" Reid, Sr., made His transition from earth and took on immortality.
"Buck" was born October 25, 1930, in Lynchburg, VA, he was a son of the late Russell D. Reid and Katherine Graves Reid. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a sister; Betty, and two brothers; Levi and Joseph.
He graduated from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in 1949, and was a part of the historic 49er's Club. In 1992, he retired from Griffin Pipe Foundry after 25 years of employment.
"Buck" was an avid golfer, and introduced his children, many of his family members, and friends to the sport. He joined the Senior Golfers Organization in 1992, and he and his wife, "Liz", traveled extensively to Golf Tournaments.
He leaves to honor his memory: His devoted wife and confidant; Mary "Liz" Reid; five sons; Henry Lee Reid, Jr. (Brenda), Donald Reid (Kay), Percy Reid, Winzelle Reid (Rebecca), and Darryl Reid (Andrea); three daughters, Vanessa Davis, Melba Jones (David), and Rhonda Nellums; 23 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; five brothers; Russell "Pete" Reid (Liz), James Reid (Margaret), Elwood Reid (Lillian), Franklin Reid, and Michael Reid (Ollie); a sister; Euphazine Kendall; his mother-in- law, Clara McCoy; two brothers-in-law; Theodore and Frederick McCoy; six sisters-in-law; Jacqueline Wilkerson (T J), Darlene McCoy (Paul), Julia Wharton, Teresa Rouff, Clara Jones (Edward), and Eyvonne Green (Roy); nieces and nephews who dearly loved their "Uncle Buck", numerous extended family members, good friends, neighbors, and his senior golf buddies.
"Buck" was a vital part of an era that believed that accomplishment is the reward for hard work. He shared his own expressions, firmly believed in whatever words he spoke, and he was never compromising in what he said to anyone.
