Henry Louis Poindexter of Lynchburg, Virginia transitioned peacefully during the early hours of March 22, 2026, after a long battle with cancer.
Henry was born on June 1, 1943, to the late Curley Poindexter and Hazel Dejarnette Poindexter.
Henry attended school in the Campbell County School System until he enlisted in the United States Army later earning his General Education Diploma. He served proudly as a rifleman on Active Duty, Army Reserves, and in the Army Guard with a combined service of seven years. His military awards include the Good Conduct Medal and the Parachutist Badge.
He worked at BWXT Nuclear Operations Center for forty years as a machine operator. During his tenure he was remembered as a man with high work ethics. He retired in 2008. In his retirement, he enjoyed physical activity, joking with his family and friends, and playing his guitar during his jam sessions.
He is remembered for his dedication to his family, his kindness, laughter, and love of music.
He was a former member of the Lend A Hand Club who provided assistance within the community. Additionally, he was a member of the American Legions Post 0016 and a prior member of the Lynchburg Elk’s Club.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Curley and Hazel Poindexter; two sisters, Barbara Ann Poindexter and Geraldine Pannell; and one brother, Tracy Poindexter.
Those left to cherish his memories include his devoted wife of 57 years, Constance Dalton Poindexter; three daughters: Patricia Streeter, Cheryl Poindexter, and Liquita Ward; one son, Edward Poindexter (Monica); six grandchildren, Enoch Streeter, Jr., Alexis Ward, McKenzie Ward, Edward Poindexter, Jr., Cole Poindexter, and Catherine Poindexter; two great-grandchildren, Eiliana Gilbert-Streeter and Elias Gilbert-Streeter; four brothers: Curtis Poindexter (Eudora), Melvin Poindexter, Donnie Poindexter (Ava), and Terry Poindexter; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family members, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Davis-Turner Funeral Service. Service of comfort entrusted to Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
