Harry Nathaniel Thompson was born on February 10, 1924, in Evington, Virginia to the late Reverend A.J. and Mary W. Thompson. He departed this life on March 29, 2022 in Lynchburg General Hospital.
He joined Mount Evergreen Baptist Church as a child and was a lifelong member.
Harry attended the Campbell County School System. He served in the US Navy as a Seaman First Class on the USS Swift (a minesweeper) during World War II.
Harry worked at Reusens Dam and Lynchburg Foundry, where he eventually retired.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Givens Thompson; brothers, Samuel, Millard, A.J., Jr., and Leroy Thompson; sisters, Ruth Austin, Mattie Watts, and Evelyn Burton.
He is survived by his four children, Dorothy Wright of Orange, New Jersey, Marlon (Annemie) Thompson of North Las Vegas, Nevada, Gerald Thompson of Evington, Virginia and Carol Thompson of Lynchburg, Virginia; five grandchildren, Michelle Rogers of Mount Dora, Florida, Kathy James of East Orange, New Jersey, Robert Wright, Jr. of Lynchburg, Virginia, Joyce and Kimberly Thompson of North Las Vegas, Nevada; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Mazie Anderson of Madison Heights, Virginia and Gertrude Thompson of Evington, Virginia.
A celebration of Harry's life will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, April 03, 2022 at Mount Evergreen Baptist Church, Evington, Virginia with Reverend Rufus Givens at Eulogist. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
