The Lord is my Shepherd, I Shall Not Want
Harold Douglas Jones, "Rustburg", transitioned his earthly home to his heavenly home on June 10, 2024, at Centra Hospice House, Bedford, Virginia. He was born on April 18, 1956, to Harold W. Jones (Mary) of Lynchburg, VA, and the late Phyllis Jones (Charles). In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mary F. Anthony and Albert Buster Flowers; a step grandfather, William O. Anthony; paternal grandparents, Hatley and Louise Jones; three aunts; and four uncles.
Rustburg attended E.C. Glass High School. He served a brief stint in the US Army and received an honorable discharge due to medical reasons. Rustburg was baptized at the age of 12 at Silver Grove Baptist Church. He attended church regularly and was an Usher until he could not stand and walk anymore. He retired after 38 years with Centra Health. Rustburg loved the Lord. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching football games. He was a diehard Broncos fan.
In addition to his father, those left to cherish and celebrate Rustburg's memories are his two sons, Byron and A'den Jones of the home; two grandchildren, Destin'e and Jordan; one great-grand, Ma'lani; two sisters, Crystal Ware and Tracie Hendricks (Robert) of Lynchburg, VA; three brothers, Ronald Jones of Richmond, VA, Douglas Farmer (Donise) of Forest, VA, and Corey Jones of Lynchburg, VA; stepbrother, Charles Jones, Jr. of Ohio; one aunt, Rhonda Saunders, one uncle, Ed Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
*Only the Best*
A heart of gold stopped beating,
Two shining eyes at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove,
He only takes the best.
God knows you had to leave us,
But you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day He took you home.
To some you are forgotten,
To others just part of the past,
But to us who loved and lost you,
the memory will always last.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Silver Grove Baptist Church. Service of comfort rendered by Davis-Turner Funeral Service.
