Obituary

Gracie McCray Dillard of Amherst passed away Friday, November 18, 2016 at Guggenheimer Health and Rehab. She was born December 30, 1927 to the late Deacon George McCray and Deaconess Angus McCray. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Reuben, Harvey, Darnell and Allen McCray; four sisters, Adleen, Lacy, Clara Perry, Alma Branch and Barbara Rucker; six sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
She joined Ivy Hill Baptist Church at an early age and song in the choir.
She is survived by her loving husband Edward Dillard, Sr. of 56 years and their children, Edward (Cornelia) Dillard, Jr., of Amherst, Michael (Kathy) Dillard, of Lynchburg, Melvin (Lisa) Dillard, of Amherst and Sharon (Matthew) Younger, of Gretna; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one brother, George (Nannie) McCray, of Monroe; three sisters, Priscilla (Hal) Haynes, of Madison Heights, Shirley McCray and Leila Dempsey, of Monroe; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law and a former daughter-in-law, Phyllis Dillard, of Alabama and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 12:00 Noon Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Ivy Hill Baptist Church with Dr. M.D. Mays, officiating. The interment will be in the Timothy Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7-8 PM at Davis-Turner Funeral Service and other times at the residence of 1354 Sugar Hill Tunnel Rd, Amherst.
