George Basil Thompson born June 29, 1916 departed his life on July 3 ^rd 2017 at the age of 101 at the Summit.  He was the son of the late Cris and Tessie Thompson.  He was also preceded in death by brothers, Blair, Chris, Troy and twin sisters, Jesse and Ferrel.

Basil accepted Christ at a young age and he went into the US Army January 14, 1942 and was honorably discharged in January 26, 1946. He worked at J.P. Bell until he retired.

On June 17, 1960 he married his "Love" Gail whom he adored. He was an active member of Morning Star Baptist Church and served on the board of Christian Aid Society until his health failed him.  After retirement Basil loved to ride around Amherst visiting friends and catching up on the happenings in town.

Basil leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife, Gail of 57 years; one brother, James (Mildred) Thompson; one nephew, Ron Thompson; a devoted nephew whom they adored, Lawrence Higginbotham and a host of other relatives and friends.
